NSF is seeking experts to serve on various NSF Joint Committees

Members provide technical guidance, review and vote on revisions to NSF/ANSI standards, and address public health and safety issues.  Members are needed to represent the three key stakeholder groups of Industry, Public Health / Regulatory, and User, which are defined below:

- Industry is a person who produces, assembles, distributes, or sells materials, products, systems, or services covered in the scope of the standard.  Industry trade association representatives are included in this membership classification.

- Public Health / Regulatory is a person from a public agency (local, regional, state, federal, or international) or represents a professional public / environmental health / safety organization, academia, or a model code organization. 

- User is a person outside the manufacturing sector who purchases, uses, or specifies materials, products, systems, or services covered in the various scopes of the NSF/ANSI standards.

 Additionally, some Joint Committees may have other stakeholder groups if deemed necessary, which are defined below:

- Academic / NGO is a person who is from a university, college, or nongovernmental organization.

- Distributor is a person who represents the supply change of the product following manufacture.

- Ingredient Supplier is a person who represents the supply chain of a product through manufacture.

- Other Industry is a person who represents other businesses commercially engaged with a product, e.g., suppliers and their trade organizations, recyclers and their trade associations, retailers and their trade associations, and other types of businesses commercially engaged.

Product Certifier / Testing Lab is a person who provides certification or whose facility provides controlled conditions in which testing may be performed.

- Trade Association is a person who represents a collection of companies and/or individuals working in the same industry or user group with similar interests in outcome.

- Water Utility is a person who represents a municipality or private corporation or association that furnishes water to the public for household and drinking purposes.

A request for interpretation of a standard may be submitted at any time. The procedure for completing the request is available here. Request for interpretations can be submitted to the Joint Committee Secretariat of the affected standard, or emailed to standards@nsf.org.
 
NSF's standards are maintained using ANSI's "continuous maintenance" option, meaning that they may be open for comment at any time, and are revised, reaffirmed or withdrawn at least once every five years.  For further detail, see NSF's standards development and maintenance policies. An issue paper can be completed by any stakeholder to suggest a modification to an existing standard. The procedure for completing the issue document is available here. Issue documents can be returned by email to standards@nsf.org.
 

NSF International Advisory Boards
